Rest period

I notice it's mentioned regularly on the forum that rest is important for the obvious reasons, mentally and physically and to be done over 4th or 5th week etc.

But what as such constitute a 'rest' week. Does it depend on the cyclist? Does it mean to down all (cycling) tools? Do a different type of exercie. Or it cut back on the time spent on the bike, cut back on the intensity, cut back on the days or a combination of all.

Your advice appreciated, I don't want to push myself too hard :D.

It's reduced effort, certainly not cut everything out. You just do a bit less. People who actually practice this will fill you in with more details.

I tend not to set aside specific time for rest weeks as such, just take an extra day off if needs be or just take it easy when training.
Depending on the time of year I might go for a run or to the gym instead just to vary it.No point in taking a rest week if you feel fresh though.Worth remembering that the older you are the longer it takes to recover.

    Rest when your tired..

Bradley Wiggins just seems to go on a bender every few weeks, judging by his Twitter. I think he's a bit of a master sandbagger though.

this kind of idea you have to remember is born out of the Pro coaching philosophy. They kill themselves with training and psychologically and physically are more inclined to need rest weeks after long hard hard weeks.
chances are most arent training hard enough to justify a recovery week, but if you want a week off (due to psyche burn out) then its justified.

Like everything else, its so dependant on individual needs and wants and workload.
