Bike parking near Central Criminal Court (Dublin 8)

Have Jury Duty soon and the leaflet the court people sent me out helpfully had nothing about bike parking in the Transport section. They also don't answer their phones over lunch. Anyone know any good places nearby to lock the bike? I know Heuston Station is nearby but I've heard/read bad things about there.

    Cheers.

There are some bike racks immediately outside the front door of the complex on Parkgate St.

Not just racks, but covered racks!

Getting out of jury duty is easy. The trick is to say you're prejudiced against all races

I pass there every day and have not yet seen a bike parked. However I used to live on Parkgate street and it is a reasonably decent area.

For lunch, Ryans do a very nice French Onion soup:).

Oh, and before I forget. For some reason (despite being north of the Liffey), Parkgate Street is in Dublin 8.

not sure french onion soup would be appreciated by 11 people trapped in a small room with you in the afternoon

I wouldn't bring your bike there - the place is full of criminals!

Got a phone call while posting the last comment, but to add:

You don't know the area well. :)

O'Devaney Gardens is just up the hill. When my first bike was nicked from a gated underground parking off Parkgate Street a garda said as much as it was most likely young ones from that area who also come down and steal bikes from the train station. That brings me on to my second bike which was nicked from outside the station. Some young guys who were apparently the theft's friends headed back towards that area.

Bikes are also smashed up on another (older) rack outside one of the pubs on Parkgate Street.

For lunch, Ryans do a very nice French Onion soup:).

Ryans do great food from the restaurant above it, I highly recommend it too.

It's because the park is all D8.

The story goes that the US ambassador did not want to have a north side postal address, but I'm guessing it was more likely an Irish president.

Thanks monument - so the area wouldn't be the best for leaving a bike for a few hours? Would prefer bringing my bike since (I assume) I won't be called and I'll be in work after. Could dublinbike it most of the way in and walk the rest but it'd still be handier using mine (with a few locks).

It should be ok in the day for a few hours, now that the court is there and among the people coming a going all the time are a good few gardai. And that you're using more than one lock, my bikes got nicked before I learned that lesson.

Just don't use the racks too far up the hill along the court -- use the one or two racks right outside the doors of the court or the ones picture above to the park side of the court.

you should be ok outside the court house during the day. probably plenty of security camers.

Although just watching the news right now, and it looked like the media scrum after the lillis trial , had knocked over a moped, but from what I could see, no bicycles were damaged in the fray.

No worries! ;) Accurate attribution and citation on the internet is one of my pet projects/peeves. (A losing battle, I know, I know...) I can't remember if you posted it here before, or if I found it while browsing your collection.

Also, re the postal district, I've heard a couple of similar stories all saying roughly the same thing- that it was a desire to have an even-numbered post code for the Park. Whether it was an Ambassador, a President or a Viceroy isn't certain. Still doesn't explain why Chapelizod is Dublin 20 north of the river though... Anyone got any more info? I've wondered about both D8 and D20 for years.

Ah the legal profession aren't all that bad. Anyway, it's not easy to cycle a stolen bike while wearing a horse-hair wig.

Nothing to do with snobbery :)

Dublin 8 sorting office is on James St and is closer to the US Ambassador and President then the Dublin 7 sorting office.
James St traditionally always served the Park and the buildings within so the entire park so it was left as Dublin 8.

Chapelizod was once part of Dublin 8. When An Post started dividing districts Ballyfermot and Chapelizod were taken out of Dublin 8 and became Dublin 10.
At a later date, Chapelizod joined Palmerstown in Dublin 20 while Ballyfermot remained at Dublin 10.
Now, onto your question on why the northside of Chapelizod is not Dublin 7.
Though Dublin 7 is directly north of Dublin 20 (except the Park which I've explained), this would mean Phibsoro would serve the north of Chapelizod but not the south. That would make absoluty no sense so instead the entire village is Dublin 20.

Finished jury duty today, the bike parking was pretty good. Granted I used 3 locks (2 kryptonite locks) but none of the other bikes that were there each day seemed to be touched, even those with locks that look like if you sneezed on them they'd open. The roof of the bike park had gaps in between each 'pane' of the roof, but it held off around 99% of the rain from the bike.

I've left my bike over the weekend in that bike rack with no problems.

I think/hope scumbags are deterred by the security.

Not as secure as the main four courts complex unfortunately.
