A Benefit Fund has been set up for one of Ireland's top darts players, Sean Marshall from Kerry, who was diagnosed with cancer and who is undergoing extensive treatment and surgery in a Dublin hospital.
The good news is that a suitable donor has been located and Sean will be receiving a Bone Marrow Transplant very shortly.
A number of events, including raffles, marathons and exhibitions, are being organised to aid Sean and his family during this very difficult period and it is hoped that darts players and supporters around the country will rally to this very worthy cause.
The organisers of the Ireland Players' Championship will be organising a Monster Raffle in aid of the fund and raffle cards will be available at Round Four of the Championship in Clonmel on Sunday, February 28th.
Many prizes have already been pledged for the raffle, including holidays, weekend breaks etc., and donations of prizes will be gratefully accepted and acknowledged.
Sean was ranked at Number One on the Rankings List for the 2009 Ireland Players' Championship when he was diagnosed with cancer but he battled on to qualify for the Grand Finals as a seeded player in the top eight.
He won his Group in the Grand Finals and was unlucky to lose 3-5 in the last sixteen to the eventual winner John Elder.
Hopefully, Sean will get over this major hurdle and that we will see him back on the oche in the not too distant future.

    We look forward to your support - - - - -

    DARTS EXHIBITION RAISED €4,250
Dart players and enthusiasts from all over Ireland and even the UK mingled with family and friends of Sean Marshall at a darts exhibition that was held in Parkers Pub, Kilflynn last Wednesday night 17th February . The exhibition was in aid of the Sean Marshall Bone Marrow Fund for as well as being a very popular local man Sean is also an outstanding dart player known not only locally and nationally but also abroad for his feats on the oche. When Sean was diagnosed in January of last year with the Leukaemia that caused him to require the transplant, he was the number 1 rated player in the whole of Ireland at the time. A matter of weeks before this he had won the Irish Players Championships in Abbeyleix, Co Laois.
On Wednesday in Kilflynn through the help of Causeway publican John McHale two of the worlds best known and most popular professional dart players ..... the 2 time world champion Denis "The Menace" Priestley and former world No1 Colin "Jaws" Lloyd flew in to put their skills on display.
They played 32 players who generously paid for the privilege of pitting their skills against some of the world's best. The 2 gentlemen professionals took the night's work in great spirit and often gave their opponents a few hundred points of a start and many other opportunities to win, as well as performing many trick shots. While their sportsmanship cost them a few legs they also played serious games against some of the top players from Kerry and around Ireland. The current Irish number 1 Limerick's Connie Finnan narrowly lost to Colin Lloyd but Player of the Night though surely had to be another young Limerick star in Willie O'Connor who managed to beat both players and must have a very bright future in the game.

At the end of the night both players donated their dart shirts and these alone along with the dartboard they signed raised over €700 when bought in an auction. This including raffles held on the night and generous donations brought the grand total raised to an amazing €4,250. Michael O’Sullivan, Castleisland was a excellent M.C on the night
Among some further events being planned to boost funds are a monster raffle where lines are currently being sold throughout the county. The first prize in this will be a weekend away at the superb City west Hotel in Dublin with the draw to be held in Parkers on Sunday evening 20th March . A similar event is being held nationally through the Irish Darts Players Championship along with a poker run taking place by local motorcyclists on Easter Saturday, and an upcoming auction night to name a few.
The committee along with Sean and his family would like to extend their thanks to everybody who made the last night possible. To all who came to show support and to those who bought tickets and gave donations. To the players who played on the night. To the Limerick Darts Organisation who held a collection. To the Kilkenny County Darts team who raised an amazing E770. Thanks also to all those who donated spot prizes for the raffles
To all at Parkers Bar for the hospitality and wonderful BBQ on the night, to Kingdom Printers, Pat O'Loughlin, John McHale, Denis Priestley, Colin Lloyd and to everybody who helped in any way our thanks and prayers are with you.
