Do you think time travel could ever be possible?

I think I've spent too much time watching the Back to the Future trilogy.

I don't think it could be possible, definitely not in regards to travelling back in time. If it were possible, I'd imagine we'd've been aware of it a long time ago, if people were coming back then sure how wouldn't we know about it by now? As for the future, I seriously don't see how that could be possible, either. But sure, who the hell knows, the universe is full of mysteries.

Personally, I'm going to have to go with a resounding "no," final answer, sir. Really wish it were, though.. there's a lot of the past I think it'd be interesting to experience, in retrospect.

Anyone batty enough to think it's possible?

my theory is that if time travel was ever invented either now or in the future then it would always have exsisted no?

If it was invented in the future people would be using it therefore it would exsist for all time so if it isn't evident now, then it's unlikely that it ever was/will be invented!

    You're time travelling right now.

Sure we're already time travelling at an hour per hour.

We need to focus on not time travelling first.

Time travel and Jurassic Park will happen in our lifetime.

It's not possible with our current understanding of the universe but who's to say we won't learn to fold one dimension into the other, at some point in our future.

I was watching a documentary there last week about time travel, fascinating stuff, Terminator i think it was called.

If it exists its being policed/regulated very well

Yeah it is, you just have to move really really fast. Check out Albert Einstein's work on the subject... (ducks for cover...)

In theory it is very possible..
    Not in my lifetime though.

I think if it was possible we would have been flooded with loads of fat American time-tourists, waddling around wearing bizarre clothes and gawking at our 'quaint' way of life.

If it is possible, I hope it comes with a complimentary holographic companion who accompanies you in your journey to put right what once went wrong.

    It is indeed possible.

I am travelling through time at a rate of 1 second per second.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,252 ✭✭✭✭stovelid

I say nay - if only because of the concomitant danger of seeing Huey Lewis and The News back in the charts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,103 ✭✭✭mathie

Yes. Check out the Philadelphia Experiment.

    No chance.
I'm not watching Hanks after that pile of 5hite 'The Terminal'.

Depends on what your definition of time is, time and space are intertwined so if you travel fast enough you could technically travel faster than time

Maybe I was dreaming but I think it will only be possible after the invention of a time traveling machine and only back as far as the invention from any future afterwards.
    get it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 780 ✭✭✭Blackpitts

it's not possible to do time travel because time does NOT exist!
the past is gone, so it doesn't exist anymore, the future has not happened yet, so it doesn't exist either, the present is something between 2 things (past and future) that do not exist, hence time is not real.
It's like going fro Dublin to London using a motorway that is not there, you simply cannot do it.

oh, btw, you don't exist either, it's only a perception of your senses.

If it was developed in the future they would be able to come back in time and show us?

But I suppose why would you come back and show us anything decent with scrotes like Bush and Blair floating about.

Surely it would have to be invented first and that time may not be for a few hundred years.

And who is to say the past hasn't changed. We only know what has happened in this time line.

Eventually yes, but in a century or two perhaps. It's beyond the concept of our imagination right now, but hey, so was Flight and Space Travel etc.
