converting Films for itunes.

    guys,

    i have a lot of films on my laptop that i play through a vlc media player. this however does not work on itunes. how do i convert these films to mp4 to load them into my itunes library and onto my ipod touch?

    looking forward to a reply on this.

    There are plenty out there, many will charge, but you can get free trials and there are some free ones.
    My advice though would be to go for Handbrake. Its an open source program so it's free and 100% legal. You can use it to convert video you already have or to rip DVDs which is also handy.

    is it no possible to convert them without using a downlodd? im on a work computer and cant dowload anything.

    +1 on Handbrake, it's a fantastic piece of software and really the one you should be using...

    Not been able to download anything kinda restricts what we can suggest, but in your OP you said you had VLC already (assuming it's the same laptop you want to use)? I haven't tried this, but VLC should be able to convert to mp4 which iTunes and the iPod Touch can use - here's how:

    For the iPod Touch, you need to have some specific settings though (resolution is limited to 640x480 for example) - see this (iPhone settings are the ones you want):

    Wow didn't know VLC could also convert files. What a piece of software!!

    As for converting without downloading anything, I'm not sure it can be done. There are plenty of online converters, but as far as I know you can only convert streaming vids to the file type you want.
    Anyway, if you already have VLC player and that can do the job then you're laughing!
