1080i on UPC HD+ Box????

Just got the UPC HD+ box and I have to say so far so good.

One question though, is anyone having problems getting it to output at 1080i?

If I go into menu -> settings -> TV settings -> HDMI resolution, it works fine on 720p but when I set it to 1080i the screen goes blank.

It's a Sony Bravia TV and 1080i works fine normally - Blu ray and Xbox 360 both work on 1080i.

On a side note, it's a total pain that there isn't an option to confirm the settings once changed. When I tried 1080i I had to get a scart lead to see anything on the TV to undo what I had done.....

Hah, same here! (Except in my case, my TV is only 720p so there was very little reason in me trying 1080i!).

It's a very poor way of changing the resolution - a lot of less techie viewers could try it and get stuck!

I've set my box to 1080p without any problem, the installer left it at 720p instead of setting it up in full HD.

There must be a problem wth some TV's and that why they don't install it at 1080p ???

I have an LG with 1080p.

1080p? The box only outputs up to 1080i.

You are nearly as well to output 720p than 1080i Especially for motion shots.

Sorry, looked at the settings on my HD box and it's set at 1080i.

I wasn't thinking and just looked at what my TV was capable of receiving and presumed that the HD service that UPC was supplying was the same.......you learn something new everyday.

The channels are broadcast in 720P, so not much odds either way.

"The highest high definition broadcast format is 1080i, with Digital+ HD supporting both this and the 720p HD format."

Ripped straight from Sky.com interestingly :D

With Sky HD Sports are broadcast in 720P, other channels in 1080i. Is probably the same with UPC. So i was partially wrong.

That's strange. Sky Sports HD always displayed in 1080i on my tv.

It makes more sense for progressive scan (720p/1080p) broadcasts for sports events, given there'll be a lot more motion. Although, even with a 720p TV and 720p signal, motion could still be very blurry unless you have one of the newer HDTVs with high refresh rates.

I hadn't realised they broadcast in both.. Can you actually convert an interlaced signal to progressive? (e.g. from 1080i to 720p) or does it just downscale the resolution - so ending up with effectively "720i"?
