Waistscoats

Ok, my fellow hat wearing beard sporting types, something I've been looking for now for some time is a nice waistcoat. Not the type of trendy waistcoats you'd find in the likes of topshop or some other shop, or overly formal wedding type ones, but the kind I'd think some of the hat wearing types of this forum might appreciate. Perhaps even a vintage kind of style?

    For example:

Whereabouts in Ireland might one procure such an item of clothing? Or, perhaps even somewhere in London?

What do you think of waistcoats in general?

Would I be right in thinking that photo was taken from Bookster's website? IMHO, you will not get better quality than them. I own a number of jackets and an overcoat made by them, and the price/quality ratio is superb. Peter and Michelle King, who own Bookster, are incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. They can tailor any style, fabric and cut you want. In my experience delivery takes about 6 weeks. They will send you the virtually finished garment for final sizing, which you then send back for completion. However, I've never found the need to adjust as the coats they've made for me fit incredibly well - thanks to Peter's patience in explaining how to measure correctly when ordering. I have no connection other than being an extremely happy (and therefore loyal) repeat customer.

Yep, you're right there. I was looking at the website after I had found that pic, and they really do look tremendously good, but I'm not sure I'm ready to go and have something tailored for me, it's probably a bit more of an expense that I had in mind. You see, I probably haven't worn a waistcoat in about 10 years or so, so I guess I'd like to try a few on, maybe get one or two fairly cheap. That said, a waistcoat from Booksters is extremely tempting, because I do like the one in the picture I posted a lot.

Out of curiosity, any pictures of the coats you've had made? I'd love to see them.

Would you try Kennedy and McSharrys on Nassau Street, there are some rathe spiffing pieces in there.

I'll give it a look next time I'm in Dublin, thanks. ;)

Sure, I'll get a few shots of a couple of them over the weekend.

The most recent jacket I got is in the G.addon mid-heavyweight fabric shown here - coincidentally with the same purple lining. However I got mine with only two pockets rather than three as shown there, and straight pockets rather than slanted. I also didn't order the button up collar, which in hindsight I should have done. Still, that's the joy of Bookster - once your tweed addiction starts, you're always working on your next order :D

BTW, if you click on the link remove the full stop after the G in g.addon as for some reason Boards thinks it's a curse word and replaces it with asterices!

I don't think this is quite right for the facial hair & hats forum so off to FAP you go! :p

Can you post a picture of someone wearing the type of look you're going for?

    I'd imagine something like this?

    Men10,0.jpg or cat_man_outerwear_xmas09.jpg

or is it more of a country type of look?
    i.e. tweed
