Hi, I have been asked to connect a free to air system up for people i know. Basically they have a sky subscription at present, but they want a free to air box in there kitchen. Is it just a matter of taking another wire from the sat dish and plugging this into the second sat box?

Is it a big job taking bringing another wire from the satellite dish? Do i have to split it or anything? Its a fairly new satellite Sky dish. No more than two years!

If anyone could help me out or point me in the direction of some instructions id appreciate it.

If they currently have Sky+ the chances are they have a quad lnb on the dish (potential for 4 wires to come from the dish, 2 taken up presently with Sky+) it's easy peasy to just run another cable to the additional unit. You could pick up a Quad lnb and correct cable and connectors from www.satellite.ie if the dish only has a single lnb.

    Legend, cheers for that.

You will need some proper CT100 or equivalent satellite cable and F connectors for each end, regular TV co-ax and connectors will not suffice.

Also ensure there are no kinks when installing the cable and do not touch the braid and core wire together with the receiver powered up, connect everything before powering up the box. (Been there - done that)

Satellite cable cannot be split like regular TV co-ax cable (Y-splitter), only in a proper satellite distribution system e.g. multiswitch.

I had a look on adverts there for a secondhand sky box. Not many out there. Anywhere else i could pick one up? ASAP

Your better off with a freesat or free to air box. Cheapest is Argos in the North or on various web sites.
