so,against all the odds you've beome disarmed and there is a zed at arms length. How do you react? How can you take him down?

are their any fighting styles you know that could take him down? What would be the best one to know after z-day?

Sidestep and run like hell. Don't they discuss a hypothetical form in World War Z designed for fighting a zed.

Any Z movies i've seen the zeds don't seem to have the best balance, so a front kick and then run like mad, or if there was a weapon lying around bury it into his head and then run like mad!!

Yea, balance; Use it to your advantage, take em down the same way you'd take a person down either cupping your foot around the leg and pulling/pushing, or try to push it over.
Then stomp on the head to kill the brain. Luckily I wear boots everyday, so I have that advantage.

If it's even closer combat, I reckon the best way would be to grab its head and keep hitting it against the nearest blunt object (lampost/cash register/etc) or the nearest wall.

I do Kickboxing,Boxing and MMA so The Kickboxing would be the most useful there.

Roundhouse to the forhead suits the job just fine.

When Zed arrives, I am fairly confident I will survive. Being alert is key. One prepared unarmed human can easily avoid taken a bite form a single or maybe even a few Zeds.

A hard push or a kick to the torso should be enough to un balance a zed, once they hit the deck, they will be slow to get up and hence giving you plenty of time to escape.

Balance is definitely the key here. It won't kill the zed, but jujitsu in its various forms would be good as would the softer, circular chinese forms such as Tai Chi or Baguazhang. The idea being that you direct the zombie's own energy and strength into upsetting itself so you can make for something useful to the task of popping melons.

If you have to kill it with only hands, again probably a chinese art that will allow you to move behind it and perhaps get a headlock and pop. There's also a japanese grappling form I once sparred against, he ended up almost standing on my shoulders while pulling head grapples. With the softer, rotting flesh of zombies this form might be useful for pulling the head clean off via brute force.

I can't believe face kicker hasn't been revived specifically for this thread.

Facekicker? When I hear that I think of this image.

While it may or may not be effective against zombies, the technique seems to work well against canines.

I'd be very wary about going into hand to hand combat with a Z. While I'm sure I could win quite easily if I was to hit or kick a Zombie with broken bones I could end up with a nick that could let in the virus.

Once they've rotted a bit they'll be very easy to deal with, I'd say a rake or fork would be enough to keep them at bay.

Theres only one way to deal with a mass of zombies in hand to hand:

    Moshing.

You first option obviously is running away to find a weapon but incase your cornered krav maga and muay thai strikes - hard and aggressive

so i reckon i'd 'burst' like hell out of the horde! Either that or run through all thier legs - out the nearest fire exit and run like fook to be perfectly honest...

I honestly can't believe someone mentioned jujitsu. I have 3 years training BJJ and MMA and I'd like to think my grappling is fairly handy. My Muay Thai and Boxing are very basic but I'd still use them against a zed. I'd never get that close. Although I could probably get the ghoul down before them biting me being so close is right in the zombies range. They can't really harm you from any other range so why bring the fight there?

As mentioned before a push kick to the midsection would probably bring one down and from there is head stomps until the brain is destroyed if theres only one zed or simply legging it if theres others.

Unless your covered head to toe in protective clothing you shouldn't get close enough for hand to hand combat. The human bite isn't really capable of doing serious damage so I'm working under the assumption that if the virus is to spread effectively it will need to rely on more than biting.

i dont have any hand to hand combat training so i would be like the majority of the population so i would have to rely on sheer dumb luck and what weapons i stumble upon eg. chainsaws attached to clothes lines etc.... :pac:

So a zombie grabs you! no amount of kicking or punching or grappling on the floor is gonna do you much good! Zeds don't feel pain so just get away asap.

what we're looking for is brain damage so banging its head against a wall or the floor is what i'd be aiming for. then running or finding myself a weapon
