Satellite or Terrestrial or just 'telly'

Guys, on another thread here there have been some questions around whether the thread is a satellite issue or a terrestrial issue. It's pretty clear (since it's discussing DTT) that it's a terrestrial issue.

However, I think this points up a problem I've noticed here for some time and I'm sure others must have too - while a transmission is either 'satellite' or 'terrestrial', the device used to receive the transmission isn't as clear cut. We have devices which receive all the above, and which function as PVRs, and which connect to the internet, and which do all sorts of other things. They also receive 'foreign satellite' channels.

With the ever-ongoing trundling ahead of the DTT launch in Ireland there will be more and more people coming to boards looking for advise on how they should proceed, what they need, how to upgrade, do they need to upgrade, etc . . .

If they ask in the satellite forum they will be told "this is not a satellite issue" which is correct. However if they ask in the terrestrial forum there's a risk that they will end up getting advise which is technically correct (you can buy a DTT STB to receive the channels) but which doesn't necessarily cover all the bases because the posters may feel restricted to responding to DTT issues only.

I'm not saying there should be one single 'telly' forum and there are definitely good reasons for the split that's here at the moment, but is it maybe time to consider a new sub-forum for hybrid or combo discussions.

    What do people think ?

p.s. sorry for posting this in the satellite forum - I went looking for a suitable one which covered all the bases, but couldn't find one :p

p.p.s feel free to move to somewhere more suitable - I just posted here because the topic that got me thinking was posted here also.
