Is there any gadget you can plug into to accurately work out exactly how much power an appliance uses? Looking for something similar to an adapter which works out power usage.

The reason I was asking for this sort of appliance is I was wondering are there any appliances like this out on the market that incorporate networking over electricity similar to this. If they could accurately monitor the power consumption they could relay the power used over the electricity network, ideally to an online website.

People could purchase many of these appliances and set them to what appliance is plugged into the socket. They could then monitor the power used from the website and have accurate graphs which show exactly how much power is used. It could also be used from a security perspective to allow users to turn on or off sockets remotely.

    Just an idea....
