2 sky digital related questions

    Hi.

Ok I have 2 questions relating to sky digitals service. BeforeI ask my question, I should tell you I am a sky digital subscriber based in the republic of ireland. I am subscribed to all the basic pack channels, sky sports 1 and espn.

Question 1: Why is it that I can view alot of the programs showing on Setanta Ireland, but can never view it when an EPL match is being covered at 3pm on a saturday? It's like sky is using intimidating tactics to try get its viewers to purchase setanta.

Question2: Is it possible to get these channels (itv1,2,3,4,bbc3,bbc4,five) put onto my EPG? and if so, how do i go about doing this? Currently I have to go into "other channels" and select one of these channels which is quite annoying. With this method I am unable to view what will be on those channels in a few hours, days, etc time.

    Thank you.

    DJT

if you take out your viewing card and 'reboot' your skybox it will revert to the UK EPG wiith the UK channels at 101, 103 etc. and you will be able to see whats coming up on the TV guide for the next 7 days.... of course this is only temporary until you put back your viewing card!!! there is no way of adding them permamently.
    the Skyman.

    1) Setanta have a few programes on free-view to try to get you to subscribe to them. ESPN had a freeview last week-end to get you to subscribe to them. They always do it before a 3pm kick-off on Saturdays (usually up to 2.50 then they encrypt the picture)

    2) AFAIK, you can't put all the ITV's, BBC's and FIVE on the RoI EPG. You have to go through the "other channels" to view them

It is Setanta that do this. It will have nothing to do with Sky.

Thanks for all your replies. My 2 questions are now answered; however, I have just one more question. I have a sky box in my bedroom. I also have a sky box in my sitting room in which the sky card primarily resides and is paired to that box. Thus I can only view non-premium channels in my bedroom when I put the card in the box in my bedroom.

I am wondering if it is "normal" to ring up sky and ask them to re-pair the card to the sky box in my room so i can watch the footie match on sky sports tonight in my bedroom and then at the end of the week ring them up again and ask them to repair the card back to the box in the sitting room.

The reason for me wanting to do this is that I am currently in my bed with the flu and do not want to have to go downstairs to the sitting room to view the match.

Also, if it is 'ok' to ring sky and ask them for 'repairing', do i need a phone line connected to the sky box in my bedroom (as i have no phone line in my bedroom), or can they initiate this directly via satellite?

    cheers

I have a subscription to Sky in my main 'paired receiver' and also receive the 'free to air' channels in a second box in another room.

However if I transfer the card from the 'paired receiver' to my second box I can get all the subscribed channels on this box. Of course when I do this the 'paired receiver box' will not receive the subscribed channels, only the 'free to air' channels. Try transferring the card again before you call Sky.

I would swap the boxes. Calling Sky at this time of the evening is as good as useless imo. Save yourself the cost of the call also.

You're making life very complicated for yourself! Why not use the RF2 output at the back of the "primary" Sky box? Run a length of aerial cable from this to your TV set in the bedroom. Combine this with a "magic eye" like this, and the job's a good 'un. That's the set up I have in my bedroom (no secondary box though; not needed!). And the magic eye enables you to change channels on the Sky box from the comfort of your bed, thus negating the need to run downstairs in your PJs!
    ;)
