Have connection but IE/FIrefox wont work

    Hi All,

    removed IS-2010 from a friends PC. I now have access and believe that it is free of any malware/virus etc...
    I can see from the ico that it is connected 100MB/s but when I select IE or newly installed firefox it doesn't log on - just a blank page.

    Any ideas? Done dskdsk etc...

    Looks like I'll have to do a re-install of WINXPHESP3 over WINXPHE. Pretty sure all traces of IS2010 are gone.
    HJT reported that my 'internet problem was related to helper32.dll' used LSPfix to remove it. Still connecting but nothing displayed in browser. I have slipstreamed a disk using a WINXPHE from another installation. Wonder will I have problems? :confused:

    Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
    • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
      http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
    • For version with the Installer:
      Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
    • For the zipped version:
      Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
    Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

    Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe



    Download SysRestorePoint to your desktop and unzip it to it's own folder.
    • Double click SysRestorePoint.exe so that we can make a new system restore point.
    • A box will pop up after it has made a new point, usually after a few seconds. Close that window and exit the program.




    Step 2 : The fix



    Download OTL to your Desktop
    • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

    • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
    • Let the program run unhindered, it wont take long.



    Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here

    Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
    • Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    • Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
    • The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    • When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
    • The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

    Extra Note:
    If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove,you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts,click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process,if asked to restart the computer,please do so immediatly.


    Reboot your PC and see if the infection is gone.



    The infection should hopefully be removed after these steps. Tell me how the machine is running and if you had any problems.
