Can anyone recommend quality LED cycle lights, preferably rechargeable, at a reasonable price and where to buy them from.

    Thanks in advance.

Blackburn have a pretty nifty new light, I think they have two actually: one with a solar rechargable cell and the other with a usb connector so you can charge it at work.

Available through wiggle, I think if you search for "blackburn flea".

This thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055705708 post #321, got all the bits for €32 and boy dose this light light up the road, so knocked over by it I've ordered another. Dealextreme is fine if you have great patients as you never know when the stuff will arrive but they have great prices:)

Let us know how you get on.

For rear lighting I think the best bang-to-buck ratio is to be found with these or any similar half-watt led style unit. Seriously bright. If I didn't already have two of them I'd be getting several. That's a good price too.

They're not rechargeable, but you could just use rechargeable AAAs anyway.

If I didn't have lights coming out the wazoo, I would be mighty tempted by the flea and it's convenient charging. The only con is the ridiculously high price and mediocre life, but then if you don't have rechargable batteries at hand it doesn't seem so bad.

Also consider the blackburn mars, excellent all round visibility and 150 hours on flashing mode:

Blackburn Mars 3.0 - 18 euro from wiggle.

USB lights are overpriced and underpowered and you will get a battery charger and batteries cheaper.

I have two of those as well as the 1/2 watts. IMO the 1/2 watts are brighter and one powerful LED seems to penetrate the darkness better than several smaller ones at distances of more than a few meters. The mars one is probably more visible form wide angles though - that's why I have one on my bag.

That's what I was getting at.

I have the Smart 1/2W and the Smart Polaris 1/2W that you linked to. I think they are fine as a multi light setup but if you want just one rear light I think the Blackburn and its wider viewing angle makes it a better commuter light.

I also got to test out my dealextreme knogg frog rip-offs, they were really good, very bright and very convenient having them as back up lights. I think I spent about 15 bucks on 5 sets of them (I am weak when someone mentions "bulk buying"), I'd have to check the price though.

what do you want them for? On road or off road?

do you want them to see or be seen?

the range is vast. I use these for off-road
http://www.ayup-lights.com/ they could light up half of ireland

but if you are just looking for something to be seen at night on the road then they would be overkill

I ended up getting these lights

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220531176380&_trksid=p2761.l1259

They are effective and reasonably priced but the front light tends to switch itself off when jolted going over bumps. I've heard about this before with LED lights - is it a design fault or is there a way of preventing this from happening?
