I have a giant SCR 4 with it 2200 shifters, which are not great.

On the front shifter, the exit point for the gear shift cable is damaged.

I was going to replace just the front shifter (I'm on a budget) with this Tiagra shifter (and probably the front derailleur)

I was wondering could anyone advise:
    - is it just a straight swap
    - if not, do I need much more regarding brackets/cables etc to complete it.

I'd plan to run the gear cable out the side as it is currently.

Looking at the manuals they don't seem to difficult to fit.

Should be fine to swap. Note you'll probably need to take the tape off the handlebars to fit the shifter, so budget for some new bar tape too, maybe. After that the only tools you need is a 5mm allen key (assuming you can re-use the old correct length cable, otherwise you may need a cable cutters too).

The only issue that might arise is where the existing gear-cable adjuster is. If it's on the 2200 shifter, you'll need a new one. OTOH, if it's on the derailleur or frame you're good to go.

There shouldn't be any need to change the derailleur unless it's at fault also and you should give it a good cleaning first...

Thanks for the info - I'll go ahead and order so.

The existing adjuster is outside the shifter at the end of the cable. It seems intact its the shifter itself that is damaged. So I should be able to reuse it.
