    Hello,

My old 28-100 lens no longer gives my camera an aperture reading, it gives me a F--, so I cannot take pictures with it.
If any of you have seen this before any advice would be appreciated, the mechanism that moves the aperture on the lens seems to be working and I cant see any physical problem from the outside when compared to my other lens.
    So any ideas?

In the event that I cant figure out how to fix it, and if it appears to be too expensive to get repaired, Ill probably buy a new one.
My search so far has shown Ill probably have to buy the camera body as well, this works out at about €80-100.

Im just wondering is there anywhere else I should look besides amazon etc. Google itself isnt throwing me a lot of results for camera shops, so if ye know any where it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

It sounds as though the contacts might be dirty. Unmount the lens and use alcohol or something to wipe off the the contacts on the lens and the camera and re-mount and see if that makes any difference.

If you're setting the aperture on the body then make sure you have the lens locked into the minimum aperture value, although that normally gives a different (FEE) error if there's something screwed up with that.

If you're looking for a new camera, there are a few F90x's in conns cameras in dublin city centre 2nd hand. €175 which is a little expensive for it, but you can bargain them down I'd say, and you get a 6 month warranty with 2nd hand gear bought there which is a big plus. The F90x is a fine camera. Probably the best Nikon body you'd get for around that price unless you can find a cheap F100.
