Do SIPTU provide a legal team for a member??

I am wondering if a person is a member of SIPTU, and has a strong case against their employer. If SIPTU believed that the employee had a strong enough case against the employer, would SIPTU provide the employee with a legal team (Solicitors and barristers) to represent the employee in court against the employer? What steps would be involved in convincing SIPTU that their member (Employee) has a genuine strong case against an employer? If a legal team is provided to their member, would SIPTU pay for the legal costs of would the member have to pay for the legal costs?

Moderators, I am NOT looking for legal advice whatsoever, just advice about SIPTU and a legal team. Thanks in advance

I'm pretty sure I replied to this thread already...wonder if something went wrong or somebody deleted my post...

As well as protecting your rights at work and negotiating on your
behalf with your management, SIPTU membership also provides a
wide range of other useful services:
    • Personal development through life long learning.
Legal aid should you have an accident at work or in respect of
    any other work related matter.

    • Education scholarships for you and your children.
    • Discount schemes on goods and services.
    • Financial assistance where you are obliged to resort to strike
action in order to defend your rights.

I guess to instigate such action you should talk to the SIPTU rep in your job.

It would be vary rare that an employer/employee dispute in which SIPTU are involved would proceed as far as a court case.

As far as I am aware SIPTU would favour mediation before an actual court case.

Of course they do, it's a lot cheaper for them.

Be wary of taking cases against employers as it may impact your chances at future positions. I've seen lots of application forms which ask if you've ever taken action against a previous employer.

I'm not saying they don't, I'm just saying that it's unusual for a case in which SIPTU is involved to go all the way to the Labour Relations Court.

I have 2 cases against my employer, and one of them is for personal injury which is a case for The High Court, and should I convince SIPTU, and their legal team, I can take the company to The High Court, and it wouldn't cost me anything. Should it be appealed to The Supreme Court, SIPTU would still provide me a legal team, and if I won or lost the case, it would cost me nothing because its a part of my membership with SIPTU. I am delighted with this news today. Onwards and upwards, I hope
