I was refused jobseekers allowance on the grounds that I am/was self employed and my income over 12 months exceded the €395 PW limit. Even though for the last 6 months we have lived on savings and borrowings and have had zero income. Does anybody know if its possible to get funding to do a course even though JSA was refused. I want to do a private language course and emmigrate to china (wife is chinese) as there is a good job and prospects lined up if I can do the course. I know FAS will fund the course if you are on social welfare.

Without jumping on the OP bandwagon I would also like to know if there is funding for a private language course. Im on JSA if that matters.

OP - I have been looking around on the net for an answer before I actually contact FAS but I cant seem to find any info on it at all.

You can still do the course even if your not on JSA, but you wont get any FAS payments other than Travel allowance.
