Right.. after many hours of reading and reading and reading, im still undecided on which set I should part with my cash on.

I've prety much narrowed it down to three sets..

First is the Samsung LE40B530 - http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-13-40B530&pages=1&prod=40B530&brands=SAMSUNG - seems to be quite popular on avforums with some good feed. However, I get the impression it might be a bit rubbish for SD feeds. We have the standard UPC Cable TV package with the DVR thing - will this look like carp? It is full HD though and is apparently brilliant for my ps3/xbox!

Next is the Samsung PS42B451B - http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-13-42B451&pages=1&prod=42B451&brands=SAMSUNG - now this is a Plasma which some people reckon are miles ahead of LCDs cost-to-cost, and better for showing SD feeds? It's also got 2" screen size over the LE40 above and 50 euro cheaper. But not Full HD... does this really matter?

Finally there's the LG 42LH3000 - http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-13-42LH30&pages=1&prod=42LH30&brands=LG - also an LCD, 2" screen size on the Samsung LCD. But I've heard LG are not quite as good as he samsung panels?

Any advice/recommendations etc appareciated! Basically looking to spend 600eu or less for a 40/42". Main uses are UPC Cable/Xbox/ps3!

Oh - i've also been reading that Samsungs have an issue with the psu that stops working afer a couple of years. Anyone know if this is really an issue on the above models?

OK, being in almost the same boat as yourself I've been comparing too, with regards the samsungs the, higher the number after the B in the code the better,
LE40B530 is a series 5 TV and the PS42B451B is a series 4 TV. The LE40B530 is a LED TV which means it will be cheaper to run than the Plasma PS42B451B.....out of those two I would go for the LE40B530 as I have been converted to LCD/LED Tv's in recent months.

Having compared the LG and the Samsung there is very little specification difference...so really that would be personal choice based on the picture quality you see in the shop and the price of it....let us know what you get and if your happy with your purchase will you?

Got the 530 in the sales for €526 (soundstore in cork) and am very happy with it.

    It's fine for SD content.

Ok in the end I went with the PS42B451B! I was going mad reading reviews and other bits and pieces so just thought 'feck it' and went for the plasma.

No regrets at all, SD content looks fine, ps3 and xbox both look brilliant though it. No motion blur or input lag at all for gaming. Sports look great. And, the money I saved over the other TVs I put towards an external sound setup for it :-)
