I've been looking around for an external hdd for my mac mini and the ministack looks like it ticks all the boxes. Anyone using one or have any thoughts on them?

Just remember to add VAT + Duty + Clearance charges coming in from the USA. Their UK distributor prices are really expensive compared to the US site.

Yep the vat and duty charges can be a bit of a shock. Its worth remembering that duty is calculated on the value of the goods + the cost of freight + the cost of any insurance. Vat in turn is charged on the value of the goods + the cost of freight + plus the cost of any insurance + plus the amount of duty.

You should have a look at the Iomega MiniMax. I've had one for 3 years and no problems. It works well with the Mini.

This is buying it in Ireland so no hassles with warranty.

    hi,

I have one of these for over a year and a half now and it works fine, using it for Time Machine backup. One thing about it is that it gets extremely hot, and I have put 4 silicone discs between it and the mini to keep the mini cool.
And I mean hot, so hot that you could hardly keep your hand on the surface of it for more than a few seconds!

    How quiet is the Iomega?

The Iomega is silent normally but when your transferring large files the fan can get a bit noisy. On startup theres a bit of disk noise but again not really a problem.
