Having come to the conclusion that much of the information on the internet about weightlifting is useless and even potentially dangerous, i was just wondering what boardsies think the best muscle mags are?I used to be an infrequent buyer of muscle and fitness but i was told on a previous thread that it's not worth the paper it's written on.So, what would you recommend?Website recommendations are also welcome(besides Boards.ie of course!:))

These comments are plain useless.Yes, ther is good info on the web a lot of it needs to be taken with a pinch of salt as well. For example, i once read that the bust number of reps for muscle building was 4-6 which is complete bull****.And some articles/videos describing "correct" form are ridiculous.

    bodybuilding.com
    t-nation.com
i think teamtestforum.com or something like that is the one alot of the more serious guys here are a member of

    precisionnutrition.com for food info

if you cant find what your looking for in those forums then i dont think any mag is going to help you

you can research the top guys in the industry and find out were they write and what videos if any they have posted online and then watch them

I realise this is going to take the thread off course a little, but the field of body building/strength training isn't changing all that fast - what exactly do they fill these magazines with to make them different each month?

Oh, wait I've thought of a way to bring this back on track.

OP, why don't you try getting a good book on the subject, wouldn't that be better than the internet and magazines? If you want to train for strength, Starting Strength seems to be the best one. I have no idea what to recomend for body building though.

Hold on a minute....did we not just have a thread on the merits of the advice given out to newbies/people who come on to the forum - and then the first couple of replies to the OP's question are the above?

Anyway, OP - there is lots of great info out there but a lot of spam/rubbish as well online. Here are some great links to get you started:

+1 I always thought readers of those mags are more interested in pics of muscly men than any info in them, like nudist mags are not read by nudists!

SS is the book I see recommended most, and arnies encyclopedia of bodybuilding, I got arnies book in the library, I would not think it is worth buying though, I had read most stuff before.

ww.exrx.net mentioned above is good, I also like www.stronglifts.com

That is the most photoshopped-looking magazine cover I've ever seen.

Mate of mine got an issue of Men's Health or Muscle and Fitness or something and at least 40% of it was full-page ads.

Helpful stuff for the first few replies.

People have already mentioned a few things already, CrossFit and IP Gym and Transform's blog, etc.

For magazines (albeit online) I'd recommend the CrossFit Journal and Performance Menu

    http://journal.crossfit.com

    http://www.performancemenu.com/pm/index.php

Magazines you buy in shops aren't that great really. Books and online stuff is the way to go. The internet has some great advice, if you can find it.

That's a fair point but one thing i always found was that every few months M and F would outline a great training regime for a specific body part.I remember about a year and a bit ago I saw a workout for the shoulders which i still use (with minor tweaks).Admittedly there is a lot of rubbish and filler in the mags but there's always one or two nuggets.

Sounds just like the internet. You just have to sort the Wheat from the Chaff.

I like Muscular Development. Once you get past all the ads for stuff which isn't even legal here, they have a lot of well-researched articles and up-to-date information.

Plus, it's one of the mags which doesn't make me feel like an over-grown cart horse. Next to those guys, I'm all dainty and petite.

I used to like Robert Kennedy's Muscle Mag a lot but I don't think it's as good these days. Still worth checking out though.
