    Does anyone have any tips whatsoever on the Composing section of Honours English Paper 1 ?

    My best area is short story/narrative. Should I use certain techniques?
    I'm quite confused..

    For narration;
    First or third person narration.
    Expression of personal feelings.
    Conversational language.
    Detailed descriptions.
    Realistic dialogue.
    Humour/Sadness.
    Thought-provoking reflections.

    Those are what our notes say on it. Check out Text 2 from 2003, thats a good piece of narration.

    For argument;
    A beginning with a clear, main statement.
    Evidence - facts statistics etc to prove their point.
    A structure that is planned and logical, so as it can be coherent.
    A conclusion that draws together the main points for the argument.

    Bascially, Introduce - thesis.
    Put together a body of evidence using facts and/or stats.
    Draw a reasoned conclusion.

    For Persuasion;
    An attention-grabbing opening.
    Emotional language and imagery.
    Use of the personal 'I' and 'We'.
    Evidence - facts, stats, etc to prove a point.
    Repetition.
    Epigrams(short, witty, memorable lines).
    Slogans.
    Rhetorical questions.
    Exaggeration.
    Humour.
    Contrast + Comparison.
    Syntax.
    Lists.
    Trying to conclude in the imperative.

    Thats all I got, hope that helps.
