CAP 1 Mocks

How important are the CAP 1 mocks that take place in a little over a month? I've been going to lectures but between work and everything I haven't been able to revise very much and I'm getting a little worried about how the mock exams will go. There is still a month to go but I reckon I will be doing a lot of overtime in Feb so I'm not sure what to cover.

Anyone have any advice on how to approach them? Are there any issues if you do really badly in them?

It depends on your firm whether there is much onus put on your mocks. If you are in the Big4 chances are they don't really care as long you attend them. My advice is not to get too wrapped up studying for them but use them as a tool to gauge your progress, i.e. if you get 50% in Financial Reporting in your mocks you might not have to do so much then you would on another subject that you got 18% on.

I did CAP1's and made a balls of the mocks and nothing was said. However if you mess up on the finals they might use it against you.

Isn't there a new rule that you've to get 40% in your mocks to sit the final exams?

The 40% was mentioned at the time of registration but there has been no talk of the 40% minimum at lectures.

Can't see how they could enforce this. If they do, won't be many sitting the exams in May.

You're supposed to get 40% and attend (I think!) 70% of the lectures, but your training firm can override that and let you sit the exams. And I assume most firms will do that.

Exactly as mentioned above. getting less than 40% means that they notify your firm. The firm will override this.

As for the value of the Mocks, it's just the same as they were in the Leaving Cert - their purpose is to scare the **** out of you
