Headphone cable - how to stop it tangling

I often do my training runs with my iPod nano on my arm and the headphone cable pinned to the neck of my running top. Unfortunately, despite using two pins to route the cable (to try to hold the weight of the cable and stop it tugging at ears or iPod), it frequently tugs at my ears, though generally only 1 ear.

    How do others prevent this?
I used to wear headphones with a band but the band was tight under my hat (which I always wear) and the hat pushed the headphones into my ears so it was a bit uncomfortable.

I was doing something similar and got the same annoying results. I don't try to pin the cable down at all. I take it you've tried leaving the cable loose under your t-shirt/top? I do that and pull out a little cable at the neck and it does the job. I think the neck on my shirt or top is always tight so the cable doesn't fall down tough. I also use those earphones that go around the back of my ears. The other normal ones are a disaster for running.

    Nice diagram ;)

The pins are guides rather than holding the cable in place. As the ipod and cable are outside my top, how would I leave the cable loose under my top?

I have an easy solution to stop your headphone cable tangling - run without music! :D

hmmm I see your problem alright. How about buying earphones like these

The cable might tug away but it won't pull the earphones out of your ears.

I hardly ever run with earphones anymore but I used to run the cable under my T as well. I put the iPod in the arm holder and pull the cable down (towards my hand) and then feed it back up the sleeve of my T and from there up through the neck. Leave a short loop outside the neck of the T and you're away.

Are you a graphic designer, by the way? ;)

I always have the headphone cable inside my t-shirt, but I don't carry my MP3 player strapped to my arm. It's usually either in a pocket, or clipped to my shorts.

I think I see your problem though. You have no ears. Nothing to hook the head-phones onto. :)

    +1.

For runs with long sleeves, I cut a small hole in the armpit of the shirt and fed cable through there.

Sennheisser headphones are apparently quite good. I have a set of sony active headphones. Both go around the back of the neck. Sony have also brought out a pair of headphones with mp3 attached to the ear bit - no wires. Sorry too lazy to link. I don't run with music either.

I got rid of the armband during the summer,it was a disaster.
Now,if i am using the ipod i make sure to wear one of my shorts that have a zip pocket at the back, then i use the same method with the pins holding the cables in place, the problem was that your arms are moving all over the place causing the cable to create havoc (very annoying),but when its in your back pocket and pinned to hold it into place, its perfect.
I have a radio that clips onto my shorts aswell...

    Also lacking a head.

I never seem to have problems with heasphones. Just put the mp3 in my pocket and clip one headphone round my ear and clip the other onto my waist.

A potential solution is a shorter cable. On the occasions when I run with music, I clip an iPod Shuffle to the back of my collar, or to a seam around my shoulder, with a headphone cable short enough that it can't tangle... It works as a solution, but only with something as small as the shuffle, I would imagine.
