To go for it or not?

    My dilemma of sorts is:

Theres a girl I like and a night out coming up that our mutual friends will be at. She'll be turning up late and not drinking, and I'll most likely be pretty drunk by that point. Even if I was to drink less, I still feel like it's just not going to happen in a nightclub if she's not drinking - there's nothing conducive to sober romance about a noisy club with our drunken mates. It's not like you can have a chat or anything, and also the the audience is likely to be more of a factor.

So normally I'd be inclined to not make a move unless a golden opportunity presents itself on the night - however, the last time I saw her there was a situation where things were going well but circumstances prevented the deal from being sealed. I'm worried that if another night passes without anything happening that it'll fizzle out..

Do I throw caution to the wind and risk creating an awkward situation, or bide my time and wait for a better opportunity that might never come?

Do you have her number? Why not ask her out beforehand?

Otherwise is it an option for you to stay pretty sober so you can talk and if you think the audience will be an issue, maybe go someplace for a coffee afterwards?

OP, i'm gonna echo the sentiments of dreamer_ire and suggest that you dont be AS drunk as you imagine you will be...just have a few less so you can have a coherent conversation with the girl, and she'll be more likely to respond to you not being drunk than being a big mess, and that will just turn her off.

Keep things simple, you have a goal and now know how to achieve it...please dont mess this chance up:)

Don't drink either. Declare you've gone off it for a month or something - ash wednesday is coming up - you can say you're giving up not drinking for lent ;)

Then you can bond over being the two not drunk ones in the club. See if she wants to join you in the smoking area (generally quieter) or even pop out for a bite for a bit to talk to you alone. If she does either, it's good signs.

If she's interested, it'll be worth not drinking for a few weeks. If she's not interested, well, you won't be the first to not make it the whole month off it.
