I won an item on ebay and the seller is based in Northern Ireland. I want find out what the cheapest postage service available would be. The package probably weighs up to 10kg's.

Does anyone know what the cheapest postage service would be? I thought it would cost less to post from Northern Ireland than from mainland UK. I'm not sure now though. Could anyone give me some help?

The seller quoted me a postage cost of £25. Surely there must be cheaper options?. I was in contact with another seller from NI and he quoted me a price of £15 for postage a similar item.

I've tried searching online but come up with nothing really. I couldn't find anything about postage or courier costs from NI to the Republic.

    Anyone?

I don't think Royal Mail charge any less for sending items to the Republic from NI than from GB.

But if Inam Reading this correctly - http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/content1?catId=19100244&mediaId=19100245 - then it should be a lot cheaper.

I'm not sure I can give a polite answer to this question but I'll try.

Really it all boils down to a question of if the buyer knew what the postage was going to be when they bid on the item. If it was noted in the auction listing then whats the problem? If a buyer bids on an item they accept the listed shipping charges. Thats senario 1.

Senario 2 is that cost of shipping its not in the listing and the buyer contacts the seller and is given a shipping price and then the seller makes a bid.

Senario 3 is where the buyer bids without any idea what the shipping costs will be in which case the seller can dictate any price they like.

However in senarios 1,2 and 3 the buyer is in no position to tell the seller how much the postage should be. In senario's 1 and 2 the buyer has agreed to the shipping cost by bidding and in 3 the buyer has stupidly put himseslf at the mercy of the seller.

As I said no polite way to answer the question when the best answer is wtf are you complaining about? The cost is set by the seller not you the buyer.

btw I think 25 pounds is a good price for a 10kg package comming from the UK if its a signed for service.

Totally agree. OP in all fairness you should have worked out the postage before buying the item. It's up to the seller to work out the postage not you.
If the postage is not listed contact the seller before bidding.

I did miss one further senario, thats where the seller comes back and says if you can find a cheaper method then I'll use it but 10kg if it does weigh that much is quite heavy and I'd be suprised if there was any change from 25quid for a SIGNED FOR service and thats what the seller should be using as he doesn't know you. If he does go for the cheapest Royal Mail option then its less than 25quid but he shouldn't do that as if you say the item did not arrive he can't prove it (no signature) and you'd win a PayPal non delivery claim.
