i got an email today notifying members of upcoming competitions in spring. as the course is having some work done these will be 14 hole comps. it also states :

Handicap cuts for these competitions are as follows:
    1st place - 2 shots
    2nd place - 1 shot
    3rd place - 1 shot

thats one way to stop the 'bandits'!

I'd like that because I play so few handicap cuttable events

Bit mad for low handicap players though.....might it just be a cut for the next 14 holer if you get me?

These cuts are usually referred to as "domestic cuts" and last until the 18 comps begin again in the spring (at least thats the way they do it in our place).
Doesn't seem to cause a problem really, but then again its been like that for so long its just become "the way things are in winter" if you know what I mean.

    Yay we're back.
As was said earlier, it's obviously not an actual cut to your official handicap.
It's just a means to limit a winners chance of winning again in much the same way as a society might do.
Official handicaps won't change until full qualifying competitions can be run.

Yeah that type of stuff happens quite a bit. For example in the lead up for Christmas when the winning prize was a turkey voucher if you won, for the rest of 6 or 7 weeks or whatever were left, you were deduced 2 points from your score. Typically I won on the opening weekend and was than deduced 2 points from my score till the turkey comps were over, felt like ages…
