No harm in doing a full backup of your Nokia before downloading this version of Maps.
A few users have complained on the Nokia Discussion Forums : http://discussions.europe.nokia.com/discussions/board?board.id=navigation

that some key features have been removed from this version. I would have thought that when a new version is introduced it keeps all the useful features from earlier releases, provides additional functionality, and/or fixes bugs from earlier releases.
I have an N97 and will have to wait for a week, but I was a bit surprised to see some of the negative comments on Nokia's forum.

I already had a years license from a previous bargain alert (thanks!) but I went ahead and downloaded this one anyway. In general they seem to have made it more like Google maps. The free directions is great of course and now the satellite view seems to actually work.
Downside: uses up c: memory and seems to make my Nokia 5800 go slower even when its not active (this is my perception anyway). The user interface seems to be slightly confused between Nokia's old button-based style and the newer touch-screen style. EG the Menu button doesnt always do what you'd think it should.

On the Garmin XT I can search for local addresses without a problem e.g. "123 Leeson Street"... here I have to connect to the internet if I want to search for street addresses :/

Also, the GPS seems to take much longer to get a good signal.

Does anyone know if other handset will be added to the download list available (i.e N95 8gb)

I have an E71 - will the free version download onto the E71 or will that remain subscription? I take out a subscription whenever I need the sat nav (which isn't that often tbh)

Exactly the same thing happening on my 5800. Saying that it's very handy.
