Good brakes

I've always felt the Bowery Mashup brakes sucked. Style over substance and all that, so after flooring myself and 2 students outside Trinity tonight I feel like partially blaming the brakes and getting new levers at least to start with. Am I best just getting Tektro stuff off CRC or are there any better (read value for money) brands. I'd rather go for BMX type if possible. Thank you in advance people.

My favourite lever is the Dia Compe Gold Finger, and the Tek77 and Dirty Harry are also good ones (find them here)

Personally I would go with a nice set of Campy Xenon road levers.

    My shame knows no bounds

It's a straight bar though. Gold Fingers seem to get the fg/ss vote of approval and they're on sale on CRC at the moment

If you are running two brakes I would get a pair of Shimano flat bar levers. I have never been let down by a Shimano lever compatible with the brake it is paired with (you need to be careful on that point.)

Goldfinger is a better option if you only have front brake (as you can buy only one) or if you want something you can clip on or off the bars.

Forgot that about the Goldfinger. Is brake compatibility to do with V-brake etc?

This articel explains perfectly why the brakes on it suck:

Well those brakes are stupid, they are TT brakes! Form over function. If I had got you earlier I would have taken them off you but have bought them myself now (for their intended purpose!) You could flog each to someone who was running bullhorn bars, they are right there.

I think the bike uses standard calipers so levers like the ones I linked above, Shimano flat bar levers for calipers, would be optimal... probably better than Goldfingers.

The travel in them is terrible. Well that's that sorted, new brakes and plugs and I should be away. Should be easy enough to remove grip and regrip too. Thanskf ro the asvice guys
