Lads and lassies, I am your everest.

I am a 21 year old boy. I weigh approx 13 stone and am 5ft 10.. wouldn't say I'm big or anything, have a grand build and was much skinnier when I was younger, and glad I put on some weight! That's what post-puberty does to a man!

Anyway, I am reasonably fit... In that I could jump onto a treadmill and run around 20 mins and enjoy it. Thing is, I'm the usual type in that 'I'm too busy to excerise'. It's true. I'm a teacher and commute to work everyday, which takes up two hours of my day, then I correct essays and organise classwork for the following day, fitting in dinner and the rest at night. I get a a good night's sleep, around 9 hours a night.

Food-wise, I eat pretty OK. Not big into rubbish, but have the odd packet of crisps/ chocolate. I love drinking water, but not that big into fruit. I usually eat a lot of veg for my dinner (most of my dinners would be stir-frys or something similar that includes lots of veg). Love healthy foods, so that's any easy one.

Anyway, as I am not particularly fit person I am shocked at what I just done.

Signed myself up for a 10KM run that's on the 13th of Feb.

What the **** will I do!? I enjoy running, but this is well beyond me! I'm doing it as a challenge, but I only have three weeks!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

    R

    how are ya?

I;m a 26 year old teacher, who also has to spend 2 hours per day in the car commuting to and from school.
I currently teach two exam years so there's a nice bit of work in it.
I manage to get to the gym 5 days a week, all mon-fri so i can have the weekend to myself, you just have to prioritise it.

as for the 10km run you've signed up for.
    best of luck with it.

frstly, when you say you can run for 20 mins on the treadmill and enjoy it, how far do you run? I'd be doing well to get 4km done in 20 mins on the treadmill.

secondly, i assume this 10km run isnt on a treadmill.
find out where the run is on.
if it;s on a road/forest park you could use your car to map out the 10km using the trip calculator on your speedometer.

try to run 5km on the route one night this week.

two days later try to tun 5.5km and see if you can build it up from there.

I assume you;re not really going for time in this 10km run, you just want to complete it?

anyway, that's the way i'd approach it.

    others might have better ideas

Yep, all about completion. Most of the staff are giving it a go, so i got pressured into it.

Yep, I managed to get to 4KM in twenty mins most of the time. Did my back in when I was 19 and had to do that three-four times a week for four weeks.. Something to do with breaking down a nerve in my spine or something. It worked anyway!

I'll be in Belfast from tomorrow onwards, so I'll start when i get back on Monday.

Don't know how the hell you do that (regarding the gym). Maybe I'm just all over the shop.

    Thanks!
