I wiped my hard drive by accident. I Then Installed vista followed by an upgrade to windows 7 a day later. Now my CD/DVD's wont play and i can't burn cd's as my player tells me connect burner. I Have an Acer 5920 laptop. My drive worked to install office 07 so whats wrong? Do i need to install a driver, if so what kind? Please help. Thanks in advance!

Yeah it sounds like a driver issue. Go onto acers site and see if you can find one there?

Try downloading and installing the "Chipset" driver for your model of laptop from the site.

Should the windows 7 contain the driver? I deleted the windows.old file thats created after upgrade the other day but dont know if the cd/dvd drive worked before then as i never checked. Could that be something to do with it?

There is CIR (Consumer IR) Driver and a SATA Drive available to download, Would either of them they help?

Problem sorted with this advice on microsoft website:

Open the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter by clicking the Start button 4f6cbd09-148c-4dd8-b1f2-48f232a2fd33.jpg, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click Configure a device.* 18abb370-ac1e-4b6b-b663-e028a75bf05b.jpg If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Thanks for all you help! :D
