    Hi Lads,

Just wondering if someone could recommend somehwere or some site to buy the 500s? Been doing my research and this looks like one of the best bets for starting off.

Edit: Oh ya based in Cork.

    Thanks
    Gary

Ebay, several cloned ones delivered for under a ton! Just use a clone safe image! (google it)

DM100 is a little over a ton but you can fit a hard disk and record/timeshift

DM800HD is HD funnily enough. Clones for about 250

    My advice.

Don't bother, you'll spend more time turning it off and on then you will actually watching it.

For educational purposes it is a good starter box but notoriously unstable.

    Really? Didn't hear that.

What would you recommend so? Hopefully a cheaper one :)

Ya I got a couple of clones on deal extreme hopefully work out ok.

Might invest in a better one for the living room though.

Do any of the boxes work as a media centre too? I.e. I could transfer avi's to them and still record like sky plus etc?

not sure where ya got yer info from but I've had one of them "unmentionable" boxes for AGES and never had any real issues with it !!
yes, sometimes it needs to be restarted, and YES, there is a fairly steep learning curve with them, but once you get past that, they are a doddle !!!

I though they stopped making the 500s.

Be careful with the clones, some images can brick them.

Nice one, there was a fella onto me about that, sent me on a link to an image that works on the same box. Savage!!

Anyone know about a dreambox media centre??
