Depends on whether they have installed a fibre optic network there.
The red areas are UPC HD ready.

I don't think that map is accurate at all.

It's not a good idea to give links with hardwired dates in them, try this one and click on the map under the header 'Dublin Upgrade Plans.

    http://www.upc.ie/customersupport/service_news/

Blanch and Castleknock are blue meaning they're planned for upgrade to all three services (phone, TV & broadband) in 2010.

Theres people in those areas who've had it for years.

The maps are useless. You have to ring them.

wish they would get a move on with these upgrade works. Can't get freaking anything in greystones apart from standard cable (unless you live in charlesland which has everything).

It is an absolute joke to only offer such a basic service after so many years in the area.

Indeed it is better to ring to see what services are available. The purpose of the map is areas intended to be rebuilt this year. The 2010 rebuild areas are made up mostly of home that can only receive the TV service, Some areas have sections of 2 way network but little or no VOIP and usually are only a 450Mhz network so no HD either.

ciaran75 Does your analogue TV service have Band I ?

Sandyford is white in the new map. i am able to get digital+ & broadband. some parts of sandyford can also get home phone. the apartments are all fibre, ready and waiting. a rep said she can't understand why it hasn't been released for other services like hd. as its white on the map, does it mean nothing will be done for this area (upgradewise)?

Hey DingDong, do you have any idea what's happening with Dublin city centre? Looking at that map, it's not even planned to be upgraded this year.

I'm in D.15 in white on the that map have had Phone, Broadband, and Digital TV for years. As have others I know in other parts of D.15. I suspect that a map of what they intend. But it doesn't seem to be a true reflection of what happening on the ground. Perhaps its a a what management want vs what the engineers can do conflict. Thats why I think you need to talk to them, and talk to someone who knows the specifics of your exact location. Other peoples experience above seems to agree with this.

City Centre is mainly made up of new network which already have their own nodes and is broadband enabled. The main rebuild project is concentrated on network that is 1 way(TV only) old network, which is the purpose of this rebuild map.

The rebuild isn't the only on going project. UPC is also looking to moving homes that are presently 2 way(BB) to 3 way(VOIP) & HD. This usually involves the moving of TV channels in the Band I region(48Mhz -64Mhz) and possibly replacing some old section of cable that may be holding the area back. None of this is detailed in the 2010 rebuild map, which is why area like the city centre or Sandyford are not highlighted. Also some of the non highlighted areas are already triple play.

ciaran75 If you have analogue channels in the frequencies below, this would mean band I are currently on your local network. You can check this by tuning in the analogue service to your TV and checking the frequencies
    The Discovery Channel 48 MHz
    Channel 4 56 MHz
    E4 64 MHz

Thanks for that DingDong. Far more helpful than the UPC reps. Just wait for them to get the finger out so ;)

Ah ok. I think I'm in this group, I got a letter about them moving frequencies a while back but since I don't watch analogue, I didn't really care. Thanks for the info. :)

+1 tks for DingDong for the info.

Analog is handy because you don't need a STB with older TV's. Unlike Digital.

Got a call back from a customer service manager & was told HD & phone will not be available in Sandyford at all within the next 12 months! WTF?! There are a huge amount of people living in a densely populated area (prob over 20,000 people+ in apt blocks) with fibre ready & waiting but no. He kept saying its not in our plans over the coming year.

Seems to be works in progress by Sierra Communications in several places in Blancardstown on behalf of UPC. Looks like Fiber is on the way in D15.

Same thing happened to me when I asked - got the phone call saying at least 12 months. Was very dubious about this so 6 weeks later I looked into it again and, lo and behold, it was available.

I would take anything the CS/Sales reps say with a large pinch of salt. In my experience, most of the time UPC's left hand doesn't know what its right hand is up to.

They are now issuing HD boxes (possibly as standard) to customers, similar to what sky are doing. A friend of mine was given one to replace his faulty silver digital+ box. He is unable to receive HD in his area though (Blackrock).

There are channels that some were told would be added to the epg too & they still havent appeared. Although, if they are pushing their HD service then maybe we will see some more SD & HD channels later in the year. Just have to wait and see.

This is good news because the Thomson boxes were terrible in comparison. That remote drove me insane. The Cisco HD box still has UPC's crappy broken menus on it though :/
