NB* Not the characters but more the characteristics of the island, physical or meta-physical. Or dealing with it as a 'character' itself.

so here I go ill start it off...

Location? So the island can move but we dont know how. It has been in the South pacific as far as we know... Altho we do knwo there is a specific set of co-ordinates that myst be used to get onto the island.
    How is it hidden?

The island can move through time.

With these two pieces we can ask about the significance of the Donkey Wheel, which seems to 'move' the island and transport the person to the deserts of tunisia.

The island has healing powers and extremely unique magnetic properties.

There is an area known as the 'dark sector'. A volcano.

The notorious smokey(which need n ot be discussed) bar the Temple which is 'resides' in/ protects.

how does the Island function with regards NOT healing everyone?

    Who made the Statue?

I was always fond of the wormhole theory. Lets say, "the island" is inside a wormhole. The entrance of the wormhole is in the Pacific but its location is constantly fluctuating, hence the need for the Lamp Post to find it. The wheel meanwhile gives some control over the movement of the entrance. This explains the time travel, among other things.

A wormhole connects to two regions of space-time, so this would beg the question where does the wormhole lead to? Who knows, but wherever it leads it isn't Earth. This would provide a explanation for the island's magical qualities. The inside of the wormhole, the island, is a blend of the two different places it connects. So it looks like an island in the Pacific but also has all these other mysterious elements - healing, Smokey, whispers, etc, all a reflection of the other side of the wormhole.

This "other side" or exit of the wormhole may be located in The Temple. This is why Smokey guards it, just like Cerberus guarded the gates to Hades. We may never actually see this "other side" but it might be like Aslan's Country in the Narnia books, a kind of paradise where no one died (hence the visions, apparitions, etc) but only those who truly believe can pass over to it or even see it. Non-believers will be left to die on the island when the wormhole collapses.

Under this theory, it may well be that Smokey was actually releasing Eko when he killed him. Eko by accepting his fate (rather than repenting) was judged deserving of passing over. What I like about all this is that it would make the island a kinda of metaphoric purgatory, which would very much fit with the tone of the first season.

Tbh however I reckon the mystery of the island will be left intentionally ambiguous in the end. The writers may not want the whole show to be simplistically summed up as: wormholes, aliens, etc. I don't mind this, as long as they give us enough pieces to put the picture together for ourselves.

Based on my theory above, the island is inside a wormhole, so it's just the mouth of the wormhole that is moving.

It clear from the show that "the island" isn't just an island anyway. It's more like realm which contains several islands (there's Hydra island as well) surrounded by water. Desmond was doing circles around this realm for weeks in his boat and was unable to leave.

And remember the heroin transporting aeroplane? It took off from Nigeria with a range of maybe 1000mles max and crashed on the Island.

Did it jump a huge distance or had the island moved at that point?
