Low energy, low motivation - could diet / vitamin supplements help?

Hi all, new to this forum. First off, I'm not sure this is a nutrition / diet issue, but I figure this is a good place to start.

I seem to have desperately low energy levels at the moment, which impacts my motivation and ability to do pretty much anything. A bit of personal background on me: I'm unemployed at the moment, and for the first few months I was full of energy and doing all the things I'd wanted to do but never had the time while I was working. Since xmas, that's just gone. Secondly, I used to suffer from depression and anxiety, and during my really low periods I would feel this same way - zero energy, just wanting to sleep, not even motivated to get up from the couch to go to the kitchen for a glass of water when I was thirsty.

So, my point of the above is that I realise this might be psychological, but am hoping that some dietary improvements or a vitamin supplement or something might be enough to pick me back up out of this slump.

I feel like I eat ok, and have been trying hard to do better over the last few weeks. Breakfast is usually porridge or muesli (though I'm occasionally weak and have toast). Lunch is usually quite light, whereas dinner is whatever my family are eating, but is usually a balanced, home-cooked, unprocessed meal (if perhaps a little carb / fat heavy, e.g. last night it was home-made hamburgers). I'm living at home at the moment, but will be moving out soon and thus in 100% control of my diet - once that happens, I'm going to ban myself from buying bread and cut down significantly on red meat.

I perhaps don't get a full 5 a day every day, but I certainly get at least 3 or 4. I drink but only at weekends and I don't smoke. I've started trying to get some exercise, have gone to the municipal gym a few times in the last weeks, but it's like catch 22 - even though I know the gym will make me feel better, I don't have the energy / motivation to get off my a$$ to go.

I'm wondering if (a) there are any particular 'super foods' I should eat to get my energy levels going, or anything in particular I should avoid (I know I'm a carb addict but can't imagine cutting them out in order to achieve this???) or (b) if a vitamin supplement or something might help?

Any suggestions or opinions would be gratefully received, thanks!!
