So if you're doing a normal amount of surfing (5-10MB) without any major downloading, you can expect it to cost you around €20/day or €140 for the week.

If you're doing business and sending emails with attachments, you will end up getting screwed.

By contrast, you can buy a 3G modem from O2 when you land for £20 and pay £7.50 for 1GB of data over the week.

    It's a no-brainer really.

    Edit:
D'oh, forgot which forum this is.

Still ridiculously expensive for surfing the web on your iphone. Another option is to buy PAYG SIM from O2 in the UK, but that's quite expensive - £3/MB!

If you search ebay for an o2 favourite place SIM

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/O2-SIM-FAVOURITE-PLACE-free-UNLIMITED-text-internet_W0QQitemZ320476750510QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Mobile_Home_Phones_Sim_Cards_CV?hash=item4a9de722ae

This has free internet access once you top it up by 10 sterling.

The one I had gave a years free wifi and 3G.

Used it for a week when I was over and it was great.

You will need to change your APN settings in the phone.

The settings will be in the pack.

You can buy the sim now, and get a 10 pound top up voucher in an o2 shop.

Tmobile also have an offer going that if buy a pay as you go sim card for 10 pounds, you get 10 pounds credit and a months free internet and texts.
Of course you will have to have jailbroken your phone, so might not be the best option unless you've already unlocked it.

Just saw this SIM in Argos in Enniskillen for about 4 quid.

You might be able to get it in Argos in London when you arrive.

Or you can put the unlimited wifi and mobile internet add-on on the PAYG SIM for 10GBP for a month (subject to iPhone being able to accept the foreign SIM, if unlocked/jailbreaked).

O2 carry the iPhone in the UK, so the iPhone will accept the foreign SIM without difficulty. You may need to activate the phone though, which will obviously require use of a machine with iTunes. I think a lot of web cafes have that though...maybe.

This is dangerous talk and the stuff of fancy. The iPhone is presumably locked and will not accept any other SIM unless unlocked.

I was under the impression that the iPhone will accept any SIM from any provider who has the exclusivity agreement with Apple. Maybe I'm wrong.

I'm afraid so. The iPhone will only accept the SIM it was er, "born" with, until such times as it has been fully unlocked or jailbreaked.

culabula is correct. A UK iPhone will not accept an Irish SIM and vice-versa. Same goes for US iPhones.
