I just came across this gun on a militaria dealers site, I had never heard of it before but it is an interesting concept. I love the idea of dropping a crap gun so whoever finds it can kill a German and take his good gun, brilliant!!

Shoot one - take his weapon - shoot 2,3,4,5 etc sounds good on paper but considering the penalty would be death to be caught with one ??

Unless you happened across a straggler or were in a large group of people who all had these I could see that not ending well ! I know you can re-load it but bloody hell.

It seems it was meant to be as much a psychological weapon as much as an actual killing machine. I suppose if the Germans thought every French man, woman or child had the possibility of being armed with one of these it may have made them nervous, especially about moving around the bocage on their own.
Its kind of like a weapons pyramid scheme, get a FP-45, use it to get a K98, use the K98 to get an MP40, with the MP40 get yourself an MG42 and with the MG42 you might be lucky enough to get your hands on an 88 and who knows what you can get with an 88, maybe even a Tiger, it might have a big hole in it though!

There was an updated version tried out in Vietnam as well.Brought out by the CIA[who else?] It was codenamed the "deer gun".Same principle, but not designed for mass air drops, rather clandestine assaination.
Looked even cruder than the FP.Suppose the better trick with these would have been if you found a bunch of them, would have to carry two or three of them loaded and cocked like old style horse pistols when you wanted to ambush your two man German patrol.
Personally, give me a STEN SMG anyday in those days.

I've seen these before, they command quite a high price, even in relic condition. You had to knock the spent cases out backwards from the muzzle, similar to a homemade pipe gun, like those you might see in some African nations come election time.
In reality it would have made more sense just to drop ammo, 'ghetto guns' are relatively simple to make by any determined, effective ammunition is the key.
