    Hi all,
Just thought it would be interesting to find out why patients don't always take the dental advice given to them by their dentist or hygienist?
Also for the dentists and hygienists on here how do you deal with these patients?

i started watching house over the summer, and if you've ever seen it, you'd know that the reason he distances himself from patients is that they tend to lie a hell of a lot. and it's pretty true.

if you take the example of a periodontist, one of the first things they'll do is show a person how to clean. i'll always find it staggering that people (who may have gotten this advice for free on the prsi last year) will pay small fortunes to specialists who show them what we've been trying to get across to them previously. i'm not degrading specialists (fitz and res!) but hygiene advice is the same across the board. a hygienist is hardly spouting shyte just for the hell of it. should people be shamed into it?? one periodontist held in high esteem will ask patients why bother wiping their ar5e if they don't bother keeping the other end clean too.
the only thing about it is that patients will more than likely claim they weren't told what you said, so records have to be in order.
also, do patients take price into account?? would they take the advice that costs more more seriously, while still complaining about the price of the actual work??
