Just though i would bring this to your attention. All proceeds are going straight to Haiti. Would be the most amazing gig ever. Gotta hand it to Glen, Pity a few more like him wouldn't do something similar.

Jeebus, sounds awful. What a hellish evening that would be. To me this just looks like an indulgent publicity stunt. Hansard isn't short of a couple of quid, he could easily make a sizeable (and quiet) donation to the fund himself. Instead he opts for this very public, kudos-winning approach. Reeks of opportunism in my opinion.

Your very quick to criticise. I can bet he's doing a lot more than you are with your smart responses.

It would be a great evening as far as i can see. And Glen is quite the man for fundraising so maybe you should get your facts straight before you open your mouth.

The last time i saw the Swell Season live it was one of the most enjoyable and memorable gigs i've ever been to. And on that occasion all the proceeds from that evening were used to buy a mini bus for a local organization. So i don't know where you get off saying it reeks of opportunism because he is always doing voluntary stuff like this. Should get your facts straight and be able to back them up before posting such ridiculousness.

It is easier to ignore it

I saw this documentary about Glen Hansard and he actually hasn't a lot of money. He makes ends meet by busking on Grafton St. and repairing hoovers. :D

I think the obvious solution for the anti-Glen Hansard crowd is to setup an auction to have him NOT play in their front room. I'm sure some joker will put 20 quid on it and that's 20 quid that goes to Haiti.. everyone wins.

Uh-oh, looks like the Glen Hansard fan club have been alerted to my post. Here comes a scolding for me. The fact remains that the guy could donate a couple of grand to the fund without any fuss and he'd never miss it. These "stars" are all praised to the rafters when they put on this kind of gig and I think it's a bit rich. If they want to make a donation they should make one like everyone else. There's no need to draw attention to the fact that you're contributing.

As far as the guy having money, the only person who knows his financial status is the man himself and given how sincere he is in general I don't know why people would believe him when he says he has none. Choose to believe it if you want, I couldn't care less :)

I pay him 50 quid a week not to play in my house. I keep moving but he keeps tracking me down. :(

To be fair, I'm not gone on the guy but everything helps so I hope they raise a decent amount.

And while people are saying he could just donate the money, who's to say he hasn't donated already? That's his private business. By doing this he's helping to raise money and keeping awareness up that we need to continue to donate and raise money to help Haiti. Fair play.
