Oh noes, how will I get my fill of wii sports now - oh wait, on a Wii.

    Pointless accessory IMHO.

oh no im so disappointed! ridiculous case of "me too". is there even any games planned for this yoke?

It's probably going to be aimed at the wii sports market alright. But it does have some potential. Resident Evil 4 on the wii was excellent.

no that you mention it, it might actually make Resident Evil 5 better

I honestly cannot comprehend how Sony okayed that design. Its widely regarded in the gaming media as something you'd find in a sex shop rather than a game store. While im not a fan of the Wii or motion control in general i think its something that Sony could do well on IF, and its a big IF, they scrap the current design.

As are Tiger Woods and the NFL games.
Worked really well integrated into Zelda also.

Yes it is mainly a gimmick but there are games that are massively enhanced by motion control

*edit* the design is a bit of a strange choice indeed. I wonder if it encorporates force feedback vibration??

I can see this not doing well at all. Same with Natal. A peripheral really has to launch with a system, or in the case of the eyetoy and guitar hero, has to launch on a console with such a massive install base that it has penetrated the market and the PS3 and 360 haven't.

The 'bulbous goolie' is an important part of the controller's tech and therefore will not be removed. The glowing ball is required for the PlayStation eye to track the controller in three dimensions.

I kind of expected this when Natal's release was pushed back as well.

TBH if handled correctly, this peripheral could take off... however, the important part is the 'handled correctly' bit.

If they go solely towards the casual market, then they will be beaten by the Wii. If they go solely at the hardcore market, gamers will simply prefer the regular controller and not embrace it.

They need to get the games right for it, otherwise it could end up like the EyeToy. Games like EyePet and that card-based game [can't remember the name] have the right idea, in that they play to the peripheral's strenghts, however, there are so few of these games that the peripheral fails. If first- and third-party companies can do the same with the Gem/Sphere/Arc then maybe it could be a success.

I doubt it will be though.

All I can say is bring on a proper Star Wars game:D

I really doubt a FPS combat game will work. The reason melee is so clunky in FPS games is that there's no depth preception from the 2D image. Maybe with 3D screen technology combined with 1 to 1 motion sensing will sort this problem out.

I half agree with you :) - I think Natal as a concept offers more chance of success though. Both are aimed away from the hardcore traditional gamer in direct competition for the Wii consumer base. Natal though offers an extra dimension on top of the gaming which I can see selling well.

What extra dimension are you talking about? I honestly haven't seen anything else from Natal other than the boy-grooming program. :D

Being serious for a minute though, I believe both products are at risk unless the right games are released for it.

There's a certain novelty in using your own body as the controller, the abillity to scan in your own real life peripherals and have them generated into the game, facial recognition of each user remembering what you were doing the last time you were on the console, the linking of the system to your own entertainment library as well as online streaming of movies etc all without the need for a remote at all. It's matrix style controlling. There is a enough appeal there to use this even without strong games being released but obviously they are needed. The games though I think will end up a lot like the Wii in terms of a lot of games doing the same thing with a few gems thrown in along the way.

All this of ocurse assumes that the various visions of Natal are fully delivered. :)

Motion control - the greatest load of crap of recent times. Really I got rid of the Wii as it was insanely annoying to have to flap your arms about. Nothing beats good old traditional methods such as a KB & mouse or a joypad.

This is purely reactionary to the success of the Wii and doesn't interest me in the slightest, and I'm sure I'm not the only one.

would have to agree i don't care for it unless maybe some good horror title.. still cant really see myself physically punching zombies in some House of the Dead title or that. but then potential for less cutesy titles on PS3 anyhow..

but i have never EVER played a motion control game. for a reason

EDIT: not missin limbs nor nowt just don't like the notion of motion ;p

Why are people so opposed to innovation? People seem to take stuff like this as an insult. You have no idea what the games will be like but already decided on it being bad

No-one's opposed to innovation but many of us have tried the Wii already and decided that waving our arms in the air wildly to make something happen on screen is a load of nonsense. Motion control - it's just not for everyone.
