Help Please!! Do I need a new hard drive?

I have a dell vostro 1400 that is about 3 years old.
I installed windows 7 at the start of December. Three weeks ago windows started crashing while I was online (regardless of whether I was running chrome or firefox).
I presumed this error was caused by outdated drivers or a shortage of ram. So I checked that all my drivers were up to date, and I upped the allocation of virtual Ram.
    This didn't solve my problem.

Next I ran dell diagnostics from the boot menu and got this error:
" 0F00:065D Disk_0 SELF TEST READ ERROR ide smart drive self test"

According to google this means that my hard drive is close to dying; but I said I'd ask here to verify.

I have everything backed up to an external using windows backup.
Should I take the plunge and buy a new hard drive and attempt to restore from my backup?

Or am I jumping to the wrong conclusion entirely?

Any help would be appreciated :D

Ok thanks. So best move would be to order a new hard drive, install windows and restore my backup?
