    Out for my first run since NYE because of the weather plus a small injury I picked up while not running typical.

    Must say it was my hardest run to date, well one way was due to the wind along the coast road. Never ran in these conditions before it was very tough. Had to stop a few times :( so there was only one thing for it, put on eye of the tiger and get through the last part of the run sad i know but it worked....

    Any advice you can give when you are faced with these type of conditions ??

    You're not going to be able to avoid wind when running on the coast, that's for sure! No real trick to it, only to get the head down and fight through it. If you start and finish your runs at the same point, then you should have equal distance into the wind, and with the wind at your back!

    Try and find a lap if possible or plan to run out 1M, turn back run .5M and repeat, do some maths to make it work for the distance you need to run - can make an interesting interval session!

    If there is a strong wind blowing, I always ensure that I run against it in the first half of my run. It doesn't seem to hurt as much when you know that it's going to blow you all the way home once you turn around :D

    Juast be glad its not snow :) . You may have been running too hard in the conditions try to relax and base your running on effort level rather then speed. I dont mind wind too much at all.

    I had the wind at my back for the first part of my run so when I turned around to come back it was like hitting a wall.

    plus I may have ran a little faster in the first part with the wind pushing me along. Guess I'll just have to get use to the irish conditions as you can probably tell I'm new to running.

    I ran along the coast yesterday too. The intial run into the wind was quite tough, so I just tucked the head in, relaxed, and pushed through the wind. Did a few strides on the way back, and it felt like I could leap tall buildings in a single bound. Can't remember the last time we had strong wind like this, so it has been quite a good winter so far (apart from the ice!).

    Yes but you spend more time running into the wind than against it ;)

    Good approach if you are doing an out and back. On a loop you get the wind at different points at all angles so as the others said, just succumb to a tough work out and treat the wind like a hill .. shorten your stride and pump your arms.. congratulate yourself when its all done :)

    I have to say, I have not yet mastered the art of running against the wind. There have been days when I've been running on the spot because of the strenght of it! Must look hilarious for passing cars! :o

    It's nearly always windy here on the west coast, was blowing a gale for this morning's run. I don't mind too much running in it, I hate cycling in it though. This morning, I did the first three miles with the wind at my back, turned around and ran home against the wind. That way, I find it easier to warm up and get into my run. Luckily, it had eased a bit by the time I turned to head home!

    I love running in the wind, not so much racing in the wind as the whippets have an advantage over my most sail like figure :-)

    Slippy conditions are what I hate running in.

    I agree 100%. 8 miles running and 5 miles cycling to work today were no problem. The icy roads we had 2 weeks ago were much much worse.

    Btw, if it's too windy then don't run along the coast. It's always more sheltered somewhere inland
