Hi, I am not sure this is really a legal matter so please feel free to move it Mods. Also I am not asking legal advice just curious.

I used to go to a hairdressers in Cork City but a better place opened in my home town and I do not go there anymore. However I keep getting texts from my old place with special promotions etc.

The thing is I never agreed that they could send me them. I only gave them the number when making my first appointment because they were going to try to fit me in earlier. It doesn't bother me I just thought that I would have to be asked.

Data protection act requires data be used "fairly" which means for the purpose for which it was collected.

You can just contact them and ask for number to be removed, any difficulty get in contact with data protection commissioner.
