Which colleges have the best/more established DJ societies?
I plan on going to DCU next year but heard they dont have a dj society at all? Apart from general getting together with other djs and learning new stuff, running nights etc, what else do the societies help with? do they keep all the slots on nights within the society or do they take others too?

    Cheers

AFAIK UCD have quite an active society, although this forum doesn't seem to like them...TCD have one, but it seems quite discreet. I hear they do DJ classes or something, but I've never seen them advertised or anything, might try and get involved though.

    By the way, it's college.

Just join the Ents there - can pretty much be the same thing tbh.

Yeah sorry about that didnt look over it when I posted, was in a hurry so fired it down quickly!

Thanks for the info, anybody go to DIT? I hear they have a good DJ society there too.
Also what is the Ents exactly?

DIT, UCC and UL seem to have the longest running DJ socs and all are fairly decent.

UCD has a newish one but is doing quite well.

TCD have a digital arts society but isn't as visible as it could be.

DCU used to be great a few years back AFAIK although I dunno what the story is now?

Ents = Entertainments, run by the Students Union

Ents is the Entertainment branch of the Student Union. There's an Ents officer, who organises stuff like Trinity Ball, and all the nights during the week.

Great sounds good, DCU & DIT are my in my top 3 choices so either will be cool. Just didnt want to go somewhere with no DJing scene whatsoever.
    Cheers!

I remember someone giving out about the nights the UCD DJ soc ran a few weeks ago...No idea what thread it was in. Maybe it was in that hilarious 'I need a gig' thread, or one like that.

Edit: Had a look, but can't find it...this is the closest I can find.

    I swear I didn't imagine it :o

I'm doing a masters in DIT. I went to one of the Dj soc meet ups = christ, was that a mistake. Ran by a load of lads who were clearly just trying to get in to the pants of the wrecked impressionable first years who'd come along. They were teaching people how to 'mix' - all the time not fading properly or even counting bars. I left the minute some French tosser put on a Justin Timberlake remix. If seriously cheesy electro house and skinny jeans are your thing, I'd recommend DIT. If you've any credibility, just learn how to Dj yourself.....
