How long should it take for the paperwork to go through before a new car can be driven away? The deposit was put down today. The new 2010 car was on the forecourt today. Garage said it could take a month. Part of scrappage scheme

Do you mean your car was on the forecourt or a 2010 car in general?
If in general yeah a month is about right.. for my one it took about 3 weeks or so...

I'd say the delay is with the scrapage scheme process itself rather than with the garage. When a garage has a car sold they don't tend to want it sitting on their forecourt longer than it needs to be.

    What make/model are you buying?

It could be a supply problem. As 2009 was a learning curve, it may be the case that the car you want is in production and may not yet be in the country. The one on the forecourt may be a demo or a sold order. If the one on the forecourt is the EXACT car that will be delivered to you then, as bazz stated, it may be a problem with the scrappage offer - your old car must be 10 years old - 9 years and 11 months means it will not qualify yet.
