Okay wel basically I want to study medicine in uni , preferably trinity !:) i'm in 4th year and well basically I know I'm gonna have to work my a*se off to get 480 points in the leaving ! Plus I've to do 2 science subjects !
What do people think about me getting some books used in 5th year now ! Just so I can do a little bit this year and over the summer before I start on the hard stuff in 5th year ! I got all honours in the jc (2a's, 7 b's and 2c's) and I didn't do as much work as I should for it !
Oh and does anyone know if theirs any way of getting into med school through a different route ,eg doing another college course first ! Thanks :)

UL has a medical school for graduates of other disciplines so it is possible to get a first primary degree and move to medicine.

word to the wise........ 480 will not get you into medicine :( unfortunatly you'd want to be getting at least 530 or higher. one of my mates got 555 last year and still didn't get it even though he did a solid hpat....then again another one got 535 and got it

I was thinking it couldnt be only 480?
But if you dont get it, you can always do something else like something sciency and then gain graduate entry into medicine by sitting the GAMSAT. http://www.gamsat-ie.org/

So that means 3/4years undergrad then another 3/4 years (i dont know, someone will have to correct me on that) as opposed to however many years it normally takes?

But thats quite a popular option at the minute esp with graduates not being able to get jobs. Worth looking into, sorry I dont know much more about it!

OP although 480 is the minimum cutoff point, it's extremely unlikely that anyone who gets those points would get into medicine. You'd be needing in the low to mid-500s at least. Maybe your best bet would be working your way through logic and spatial reasoning books (I'm sure you can get these kinds of books in Easons) to develop your thinking in these areas so that you can maximise your HPAT score.

As many know the lowest LC points that made it into Med last year was 525! basically any lower than that will be pretty unlikely to get in. :(

    Then the HPAT........ Another story

I also really want to do med! I did my 4th year work experience in A&E and really enjoyed it. Im aware of the fact that I will have to work my ass off for the leaving... Il be aiming for 560/570 Id say. Just wondering if anyone has any idea how med in UCC compares to other universities?
