Big Dish Go are thrilled to announce a seriously bulky beat-down to mark our return to The Button Factory. Shaking the audience will be the legendary techno prime mover that is "Speedy J", a live show from the newest m-nus label heavyweight "Hobo" and in support the quick n' slick "Hugo Johnson" of Dublin's own FVF records. This will be the second big international double header of the year for Big Dish Go, there is so much more to come. It's 2010, nothing is going to stop, Big Dish Go are proud to still believe in bringing the best of all genres of electronic music to Dublin at a fair price.

    Speedy J
    (Electric Deluxe, Rotterdam)

After fifteen years of techno Speedy J has come full circle. He’s making techno again. But what a wide circle it was, and how fickle the trodden path. Over the years he has collaborated with video-artists, filmmakers and advertisers, made the pioneering DVD Umfeld and has continuously been pushing the boundaries of electronic & experimental dance music. “I just constantly want to do new things,” he explains. Most recently this has been exemplified in his new label Electric Deluxe, which will issue digital releases only. Jochem Paap (the Rotterdam artist owes the nickname Speedy J to his DJ skills) is unanimously considered to be one of the first techno producers to come from the Benelux. Someone who, together with people like Laurent Garnier, Aphex Twin and his good friend Richie Hawtin, helped raise the genre just after it had escaped the Detroit delivery room.

“Right now I feel very strongly about making and releasing techno. My heart is really in dance music after all.”

    HOBO live
    (m-nus, Tractile, DE/CA)

Very few artists in this industry are able to move from conception, to the tops of charts in the span of only a few months. A quick look at the mighty Minus label chart on Beatport and you will see no less then SIX out of the top ten releases are by Hobo aka Joel Boychuk, astonishing! How did that happen? At the age of twenty-four, Joel Boychuk(originally from just outside Detroit but now living in Berlin) is still young, but the swiftness with which he has navigated his way from what was just an idea, to achieving wide acclaim, has shown the vision and steady-hand of a veteran. For inspiration, Hobo with laptop in tow, disappeared into the wilderness (The Pinery National Park to be exact) shacking up in a traditional Mongolian style tent for a week. Fasting for much of his stay and relying on heightened levels of perception and objectivity brought on by the immense beauty and peacefulness of his surroundings, he set to work. What came about was music that injects energy into any set through its sheer creativity, variety of ideas and not least of all grizzly acid bass motifs.

"Sometimes you have to lose yourself in order to find a better way. It’s
not a conscious decision, it can’t be forced – it’s just the way of the
    wanderer, the hobo."

    Hugo Johnson (FVF)

FVF records is an emerging techno/minimal/electronica collective based in Dublin. FVF was set up in 2005 with it's roots in techno and a firm resolve to help further the Irish music scence. Hugo Johnson is a prime example of talent found on the label and in Dublin at the moment.
