200k in bank - eligible for medical card?

    Hi,

I note that it is income and not actual savings that is taken into account in assessing whether someone is entitled to a medical card.

The income limit for a single person aged under 66 and living with family is €164 per week

So would someone with 200k in the bank on an interest rate of say 4% getting €8,000 a year in income (less than €160 per week) with no other source of income be entitled to a medical card?

would it matter if they were a student?
