Yeah Im a joker when it comes to renewing/applying for stuff....if you are a garda my windscreen doesnt make good reading either !

They issued my new membership number to me by email within 24 hrs of applying (mid December), but I still have not received a new membership card. I would presume you will not get the card by Saturday but if you get the membership it should be enough to satisfy the race insurance issues.

i got mine within about 10 days of applying when they first put the details online late last yr.

    I joined up on December 14th 2009
My money was taken on December 15th 2009

As of January 18th (today) I have still not received my membership card

Figuring that maybe I was lost in their system I have contacted them 4 times and at 2 email addresses over the past 10 days or so

I have received no response from them - nothing, so I ask

Triathlon Ireland - are they still in business or are they just plain ignorant?

They have a post on the website stating they are having difficulties with the membership cards at present.
Update on website each Thursday before an event to let you know what to do, until the issue is resolved.

Barname did they send you an e-mail with your TN number, If they did can you use that for registration at races until they send you out a card?

I don't think they are a 'business' to go out of business. They are a non-profit sporting National Governing Body who in the main through volunteers run the sport and put systems in place so that many people like yourself can participate in the sport.

If you feel there is a shortfall in the organisation and think you could add some value and improve it and improve the sport in general, offer your services as a volunteer. Then you'll be less annoyed and be able to help people who next year get frustrated like you yourself got frustrated this year.

Well said. Bashing volunteer organisations for their shortcomings is just ignorant. When people give up their time and effort for the reward of knowing others are participating and enjoying their sport, a little gratitude would go a long way.

I am new to the sport of triathlon, have enjoyed taking part in events over the last 2 years, and this wouldnt be possible without other people volunteering to run clubs and events. I haven't volunteered for anything yet, and would be mighty peeved if my efforts were rewarded with abuse if I did.

Did you not hear about it.......

Just got my membership number , hopefully they will accept that along with maybe my visa card as proof - the email says without the TI card you need to buy a 1 day , which is rubbish

No actually it makes perfect sense, people were turning up to races having swapped entires and then saying - "well my number is XXXXX". But it wasn't them and insurance was invalidated as the event was entered under fraud.

They should have spotted a fraud if people are giving their numbers as X's :D

I get ya though, I'll try not to have to pay the tenner though !

The matter should not be fuzzed, since it addresses the need for common courtesy

A simple email advising of a delay would have been appreciated.

Its a common strategy in this country to attack the guy that asks the questions that put people on the spot or that perhaps highlights their deficiencies, perhaps the energy wasted on such tactics would be better spent COMMUNICATING in the first instance.

I wonder have 'volunteers' scanned this thread and even perhaps responded and or 'thanked' defenders of TI, if so Its a pity they wouldnt spend that time responding to a simple email.

(for the record - I resorted to boards.ie as a last resort following several emails sent to 2 different addresses for TI
Re volunteering, what do you know about me and how I spend my spare time? )

Amazingly some people view email/texts and the rest as an asynchronous and not guaranteed for delivery. Phones on the other hand............

What makes you think anyone from TI has read this thread?

Email isn't guaranteed delivery and your email address may well be on a spam list.

Absolutely nothing. Based on the fact that you assumed that TI was a business I assumed you may not be au fait with how these things work so tried to highlight the fact that much of these organisations survive through volunteerism and that anyone can get involved. If you know all that already, apologies, I picked you up wrong.

You saw a problem, I suggested to really make a difference you get involved and get rid of the problem. Its simple really. I'll always try and encourage people to get more involved in their sports and when I do that I'm not with the full knowledge of that person's lifestyle. When you are inside the tent its easier to get things changed. Most of these organisations have big empty tents too.

When you get your membership card and all is sorted maybe send TI an email (or call them) and put forward a suggestion (if you have the time as I don't want to assume you don't have a busy life with no spare time) so as to make the process cleaner and better for next year. If you don't do that then you might become susceptible to that other common strategy in this country of people who always complain but never do anything about it.

I obviously incorrectly assumed you believed TI was a business because you asked were they gone out of business. Simple mistake and obviously not the case so grand you can ignore my part on explaining it wasn't a business and run mainly by volunteers, no big deal.

Sorry, still don't comprehend your post if you feel the need to post it again as I thought I understood it the first time and to be honest I am going to be plain ignorant and not try to understand it as there are more interesting to discuss here like sport.

Just to clarify, I have no involvement with TI.

What utter tripe! The OP paid for membership which was taken within one day. Therefore, TI should have the common courtesy to issue his membership card immediately, not wait for almost a month! If people that give up their time can't be arsed to do the job then perhaps they should jack it in and do something else!

Is it not true though that there is someone paid to do this job? And therefore nothong to do with the volunteers that do give up their time and energy to contribute to the sport.

As some one is being paid to do the administrative duties of Triathlon Ireland (of which I presume membership is a part of, maybe it is someone else's duty, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong) members should at least expect to have emails/phone calls returned in a timely manner.

LOL - I volunteered as membership secretary for a year a few years back. I used to get all manner of ranting emails and phone calls from people just like barname. My particular favourite was getting abusive phonecalls from a particular guy , much like this thread "Where is my card?" "Give me my card I posted in the entry weeks ago, this is just not acceptable!" and so on and so on.
There was no trace of the application but the individual would not see reason that the letter just hadn't arrived and the abuse continued.
Two weeks or so later I was at an early season duathlon and a member of a triathlon club based down the country walked up to me and said "Here, I think this might be meant for you, it was delivered to my house".
    Things like this happened alot.

My emails to Triathlon Ireland were not 'rants' they were Inquiries

My Inquiries were ignored, my cash was not.

I think any fair minded person that reads through this thread can follow what happened, they can also see the attempt by a few posters (Tunney included) to discredit legitimate concerns with respect to the lack of common courtesy displayed by TI

Tunney, take it on board, dont take it to heart.

    Digging-1.jpg

and hey ! When you are in a hole...... :pac:

For the record.... I "thanked" some of hte defenders of TI but I've nothing to do with them at all other than being a member.

I really think you're over reacting - TI had a notice on their website where they advised they were having problems. They also said that they were trying to sort it out but that if they hadn't done so before Naas - they would make alternative arrangements. That to me seams perfectly reasonable.

You are being totally unreasonable, systems go down occasionally, people make mistakes, delays happen. I've no idea what happened in TI to cause this delay but they did put a message on their website addressing it and saying they would make alternative arrangements if it wasn't sorted in time. There is a later update saying they resolved the problem & cards had been posted. Maybe you think they should have spent their time emailing everyone individually instead of trying to sort out the problem? Or maybe they should hire more people to work on this & charge us all €100 membership instead of €50?

As for what you spend your spare time at - it's pretty obvious you don't spend it putting anything back into your sport.
