Will be interesting to see what Murdoch does, he's driven totally by profit so expect sparks. His own children are at odds with him about the blatantly right-wing trash spewed out by Fox News but as far as he is concerned it's profit that matters and nothing else.

Expect Tory policy on broadcasting to be fashioned to suit Murdoch as the election gets closer, remember that Tony Blair flew all the way to Australia to speak at a Murdoch gig in the months before he was elected in 1997. David Cameron is currently Murdoch's political poodle so Ofcom can expect the Tories to start waving big sticks at them pretty soon.

wonder whether this will have a knock on effect over here though or would we need to see a similar intervention from the BAI.

The BAI cant make Sky do anything because Sky arent based in Ireland

surely if they're providing a service here they're subject to the regulations of the BAI???

Nope single market and all that.

There are FTA channels which can be seen in dozens of countries. For them to be subject to regulation in every country they can be recieved in would be impractical, unworkable and quite frankly communistic.

No it means Irish subs will go up. I got a quote from sky yesterday for sky sports and HD pack, 70€ a month! Thats a hell of a lot of dosh just for TV! It still have to get Setanta and ESPN for my full sports coverage, which must take it close to 100€ a month, MAdness.
